Burbank Noon Lions Eyeglass Recycling

Can you imagine your life if you couldn't get up in the morning and put on your glasses? Would you be able to get out of bed and make your way across the room without bumping into something? This is the way millions around the world live their lives daily. Young and old living in poverty, look at the world through a fuzzy blur, unable to handle many of the simple tasks of caring for themselves, reading their mail, watching TV or earning a living.
LET YOUR OLD GLASSES IMPROVE SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE
The Burbank Noon Lions are
part of the solution to helping the impoverished to see, improving the quality of life for
millions. They are able to do this with the donation of used eyeglasses collected from
people like you. Burbank Noon Lion Club members are requesting residents check through
their bureau drawers and closets for old, unwanted prescription eyeglasses and
prescription as well as non-prescription sunglasses, and donate them to the Lions Recycle
for Sight Program. Glasses can be dropped off at the Burbank Central Library and the
City's Recycle Center in specifically marked Lions Recycle for Sight collection boxes.
(See additional list of Drop Off sites below)
Collected glasses are shipped to Lions' regional eyeglass recycling centers where they are cleaned, categorized by prescription and prepared for distribution by Lions and other health organizations. Lions in Sight is the non-profit foundation, run by volunteer Lions, that oversees the preparation and distribution of recycled eyeglasses around the world. According to Lions International, in many areas an eye exam can cost as much as one month's wages and a single eye doctor may serve a community of hundreds of thousands of people. During the free eye examinations at the Eye Clinics, doctors have been able to detect eye diseases in six out of 10 patients, with cataracts being the most common affliction. Knowing a pair of glasses can change their lives, whole families are willing to walk for miles to wait in line for their turn at many of the Lions Eye Clinics offered around the world.
